Florence City and Art Historical Tours  

First time in Florence walking tour
2 ½ - 3 hours
This is an "outside" tour, with a concentration on the religious center of Florence with Cathedral, Baptistery, and Belltower and the governmental center with Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio and Piazzale degli Uffizi. Depending on personal interests Piazza della Repubblica, Palazzo Strozzi, Dante's neighborhood or Ponte Vecchio.

(we can add a visit to the Accademia musuem at the end of the tour with a focus on Michelangelo's masterpiece David - which makes the tour about 3 - 4 hours, advanced reservations recommended).

Domenico Ghirlandaio - a "photographer" of the Renaissance

In Santa Maria Novella discover the frescoes in the main Tornabuoni chapel by Domenico Ghirlandaio. Stroll down the famous Via Tornabuoni with its monumental 15th century homes such as Palazzo Strozzi, Palazzo Antinori and Palazzo Bartolini-Salimbeni. Visit the church of Santa Trinità with Sassetti chapel also frescoed by this master.

Visit the Baptistery, the Cathedral and the Museum of the Opera del Duomo (a great museum which houses many things that were originally in the Cathedral - masterpieces by Ghirlandaio, Donatello, Luca della Robbia, Verrocchio, Michelangelo). 

Garden and Palace walk

Stroll through the Stefano Bardini gardens which includes entrance to the Boboli gardens and then visit the Pitti Palace Silver Museum.

We concentrate on the highlights of the collection in order to better understand the evolution of art in painting. See masterpieces by Giotto, Cimabue, Botticelli, Piero della Francesca, Leondardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael! 

Bacchus and the Bargello

Visit this special museum one of the oldest public buildings in Florence and now the state sculpture museum. Collections from Medieval times to the Renaissance with masterpieces by Donatello, Verrocchio, Michelangelo, and Giambologna. Compare and contrast works of the mythological Bacchus and afterwards contemplate things over a glass of vino.



Falling in love with another Florence- the Oltrarno
3 hours - Meander through the backstreets of Florence. Discover the Oltrarno area of town, full of artisans’ studios, antique stores, bars, and small restaurants. Walk down medieval alleyways, engage in tower talk, pass by Medici’s monumental home and learn some of their family secrets. Enter into the world of Renaissance palaces and hidden churches. Tour includes an artisan studio or a wine tasting, depending on personal interests. 


Mondays in Florence: Morning visit to a professional Painting Restoration Studio. 

2 hours. In a traditional “bottega” atmosphere learn about how Renaissance paintings were made. Find out why Florentines have become worldwide restoration leaders. Learn about traditional restoration techniques using fish and rabbit glue to modern relining techniques using a hot table. 

A taste of Florence 

A visit the 19th century San Lorenzo food market can be an added treat to any tour in the mornings. Enjoy a private extensive tasting in a famous 3rd generation specality stand. Taste the best culinary products of Tuscany and Italy- chicken liver patè, pecorino and parmeggiano cheese, extra-virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sun dried tomatoes, olives, and of course vino! tour approx 1 hour

A walk in the footsteps of Leonardo

Walks off the beaten path to explore the nearby hills in Fiesole and Settignano where famous Renaissance artists lived and worked. Possible visit with lunch in a private home.

Walk beyond the walls: a classical fuori porta walk
(South of Florence) 3-4 hours
Walk beyond the walls: An urban trek which starts in the heart of Florence at Ponte Vecchio and leads up to the magnificent Romanesque church of San Miniato a Monte. Walk along backstreets by Renaissance Villas. Walk to the hill where scientist Galileo lived and worked. Enjoy magnificent vistas!
